    Description: The Kenosha Unified School District No. 1 seeks an outstanding leader to serve a student population of 22,500+ in 24 elementary, 5 charter, 6 middle, 6 high (1 alternative), an early childhood program, a military academy and an e-school. The total operating budget for 2007/08 is approximately $224 million. The Kenosha Unified School District is a growing, progressive, dynamic, urban public K-12 district with an enrollment of 22,500+ students (19 percent Hispanic; 16 percent African American; 62 percent Caucasian; and 4 percent Asian/other). Kenosha is located 30 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago on the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. The Board seeks a community spirited, and highly skilled innovative educational leader who will advance excellence in every aspect of the organization’s operation. The new superintendent should have a proven track record for leading a similar majority/minority urban school district in the improvement of student achievement. A Doctorate or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university (Doctorate Degree preferred) and eligibility for Wisconsin certification as a Superintendent of Schools is required. Candidates must demonstrate instructional knowledge and skills as well as provide evidence as to how their leadership has had an affect on student achievement and behavior as noted through data trends. Candidates must also have skills in organizing ideas and presenting them with clarity and conciseness, establishing and maintaining working relationships based on mutual confidence and respect, identifying problems and their resolutions, evaluation of performance potential as revealed through interviews and other means of observation, organizing and maintaining simultaneous progress in a considerable variety of detailed operations involving many different people and processes; knowledge of the scope and relationships of the position to the total educational program; sufficient knowledge and understanding of functions related to the position to provide leadership in the maintenance and improvement of an efficient and effective program; demonstrated sound judgment, social competency, adaptability, self-confidence, emotional maturity, initiative, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness; dedication to duty and the ability to act consistently; and ability to evaluate a program through observation and examination of stated objectives and related results.
