2004 WISCONSIN SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR SELECTED

The Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators is pleased to announce the selection of Tom Andres, Superintendent of the Sauk Prairie School District as Wisconsin’s 2004 Superintendent of the Year.

The Sauk Prairie School District includes Sauk City and Prairie du Sac, two "next door" villages on the Wisconsin River. Thirteen towns and the village of Merrimac are also in the district. The district covers 240 square miles and employes 243 instructional staff, 158 support staff and 16 administrative staff serving 2,646 students.

Mr. Andres has served as the superintendent for the Sauk Prairie School District since 2000. Prior to assuming the role as superintendent, he served as the principal for the Sauk Prairie School District from 1990 to 2000. His administrative career also includes serving as an assistant principal/activities director for the Rhinelander School District from 1987 to 1990.

He is a member of the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators and the American Association of School Administrators and the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and served on AWSA’s Board of Directors from 1993 to 1995. Mr. Andres was also Principal of the Year in 1997.

Locally, Mr. Andres serves his community as a member and officer for the Sauk Prairie Optimist Club, as a member of the UW-Baraboo Advisory Board, member of the Sauk County Comprehensive Planning Committees, on the Sauk County Institute of Leadership Board of Directors and Committee Chair at Concordia Methodist Church Parish.

Mr. Andres will be representing Wisconsin in the National Superintendent of the Year Program, which is sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators and the ServiceMaster Company, at AASA’s National Conference on Education in San Francisco in February. The Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators will be presenting the 2004 Wiscolnsin Superintendent of the Year award to Mr. Andres at its annual statewide convention in Green Bay in May.
