WASDA supports continued growth and refinement of leadership skills of superintendents in their 2^nd through 5^th year of service by offering programming targeting the needs of early career leaders including virtual academy sessions and executive coaching.

Academy Topics

Superintendents may register to participate in the specialized virtual academy sessions designed to enhance leadership performance for early career leaders. New sessions, developed for 2024-2025 based on input from practitioners in the field, dive more deeply into relevant leadership issues and challenges. These early career, virtual sessions, will be offered generally on Tuesday mornings, approximately once per month, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. The sessions will be recorded and placed on the resource page for reference. Additionally, participants may engage in all the new First Year Superintendents Academy sessions for 2024-2025, and revisit for clarity or refinement, all other First Year Academy sessions, live or recorded.

Executive Coaching

WASDA offers continuing opportunities for Executive Coaching for Early Career superintendents. Each superintendent may choose to stay with a coach they have worked with previously, or they may select to be paired with a new coach to experience a variety of leadership styles. Executive coaches provide personalized support to hone leadership abilities, boost effectiveness and productivity, and enhance high-level skills necessary to succeed as a superintendent in schools today. Importantly, executive coaches assist in the ability to focus, manage stress, and bring objective, third-party perspective to complex decision making and problem solving.

Superintendents may participate in coaching regardless of whether coaching was accessed during the 2023-2024 year. Leaders who wish to continue with their coach from 2023-2024 can request that opportunity.

Access to Academy and Coaching 

The cost to participate in the academy sessions and coaching for 2024-2025 is $1,000.
