Two Learning Opportunities Scheduled for Spring and Summer!


The Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators and Association of Wisconsin School Administrators remain committed to providing opportunities for professional learning, networking, and leadership throughout the year. Learning opportunities are responsive to feedback and facilitate learning based on evidence of best practice as well as new information and important research that impacts the field of education. Therefore, WASDA and AWSA are sponsoring two learning opportunities designed for school and district leaders, curriculum and instructional specialists, and teacher leaders to take learning to new heights in their systems. These two learning opportunities complement one another but are also valuable as stand-alone conferences. 


The Wisconsin Summit for Data-Informed Leadership is scheduled for March 1-2, 2016 at the KI Center in Green Bay. Understanding data and embedding effective data practices within a cycle of inquiry is a prerequisite for sustained school and system improvement. The summit will allow participants to focus on data and assessment practices, offer practical strategies for strengthening data review processes and collaboration opportunities, and provide time for action planning. A resource showcase will be available for participants to learn more about quality data review products and how districts in Wisconsin are using them effectively. This summit replaces the former RTI Summit as our school communities continue to move beyond structures to data-driven dialogue and instruction. Keynote will be Bruce Wellman, co-author of Data Driven Dialogue:  A Facilitator's Guide to Collaborative Inquiry. Dr. Wellman will inspire participants to think about the learning-focused conversations happening in a school and district and their impact on achievement.  


The Quality Educators Convention is scheduled for June 22-24, 2016 at the Monona Terrace in Madison. Effectively acting on data requires strong professional learning communities armed with a repertoire of strategies and approaches in order to effectively engage every learner. The QE Convention will focus on practical strategies for improving collaborative processes and high-leverage instruction while also providing opportunities for related action planning. Keynote will be Laura Lipton, co-author of Data Driven Dialogue: A Facilitator's Guide to Collaborative Inquiry. Dr. Lipton will engage participants in thinking about learning-focused classrooms and the data-informed decisions teachers, schools and a district make about their instructional practice. Also keynoting this conference is Doug Reeves, author of more than thirty books and 80 articles on leadership and student achievement. His interactive keynote will be focused on High Impact Leadership: How Leaders Improve Achievement, Enhance Creativity, and Redefine Accountability for 21st Century Schools. QE participants will also benefit from ongoing support from Doug Reeves as we coordinate opportunities for him to continue to serve schools and districts throughout the 2016-17 school year.


School or district teams are encouraged to save the date for one or both conferences. Registration will be open in late January. At this time we encourage schools and districts to consider submitting a proposal for concurrent sessions for both conferences. Qualifying proposals will reflect a direct link to the specific strands of each conference. Below are some suggested session topics within a strand but these should not limit additional ideas.

State Personnel Improvement Grant (SPDG) school cohort teams are encouraged to follow up their required pre-conference session (June 22) by attending the Quality Educator Conference sessions on June 23-24, 2016.
